Journey as a Filmmaker

Dr. Biju is a three-time National Award-winning filmmaker and one of the most influential contemporary voices in Indian cinema. Known for his authentic storytelling and visionary approach, Dr. Biju has consistently brought compelling Indian narratives to the global stage. His debut film, Saira, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2007 under the “Cinema of the World” section, marking the beginning of an illustrious international career.

Over the years, Dr. Biju has directed 14 films, each reflecting his unique perspective and deep engagement with social and human issues. His works have been showcased at numerous prestigious international film festivals, winning several accolades, including the Golden Goblet Award for Best Artistic Achievement at the Shanghai International Film Festival in 2019. His films have been featured at major festivals such as Cannes, Montreal, Shanghai, Telluride, Moscow, Chicago, Cairo, Fajr (Iran), Eurasia (Kazakhstan), Jeonju (Korea), Tallinn (Estonia), Oporto (Portugal), Hanoi (Vietnam), JOGJA (Indonesia),  Dhaka (Bangladesh), Vladivostok (Russia), Kazan (Russia), IFFK (Kerala), and IFFI Goa, among others.

Beyond his contributions as a filmmaker, Dr. Biju has served on the jury of several renowned film festivals worldwide, India’s National Film Awards in 2012 and India’s Oscar selection in 2015. A prolific writer, he has also published numerous articles and books on cinema, sharing his insights and passion for the art form.
